The project procurement planning process consist on documenting different strategies concerning acquisition of products, services, or results for the project, by using resources from outside.

These documents contains information about decision making process, identifies the project needs to outsource, the timing when needed, and describes how to acquire them. As part of this, there is also the identification of potential sellers, and definition of legal criteria linked to each contract that could potentially be stablished.

This process has a direct interaction with the project schedule, for example, there could be items in the project schedule that could help determine when to specifically acquire a good, service or result. But also there could be decisions regarding policies of a contract that could affect the project schedule.

Depending on the contract type, there are risks involved that need to be identified and managed as part of the Risk Management process.
